Rehe
Heute endlich

Deer
Today at last
has conjured up the image
I’ve persistently tried to recall
for days
How exactly did it…
The deer stand motionless in the fog like strange stumps.
The deer stand motionless in the furrow like exotic stumps.
The deer emerge from the fog motionless as stumps.
The deer stand stock still in the furrow like stumps.
The deer stand in the fog like stumps.
The deer stick out of the furrows like stumps.
The deer stick out…
The deer stick out of the fog motionless like stumps.
That was the image

no longer, but still
I no longer do up your buttons, but I still pick your hat
I no longer hold the glass to your mouth, but I still comb your hair
I no longer strap you into seats and chairlifts and helmets, but I still watch over you
I no longer show you things, but I still cook for you
I no longer carry you on my forearm, but you still run to me
I no longer can tell you, but you still listen to me
I no longer keep a hand on you at great heights, but I’m still scared to see you there
You can read already, but I still read to you
I no longer look you over, but I still decide for you
You can blow your nose, you flush, you laugh all by yourself
I no longer press you at the crosswalk anymore, but I still keep my hand on your shoulder
I still keep my hand on your shoulder there
