In 2008 Artist/poet Mihret Kebede and her musician friends who freshly graduated from Yared music school initiated the first poetry and Jazz event in the country. The aim to start such an event was to create an alternative experimental artistic event, different from the commonly overused music formats or poetry events; treating poetry and Jazz as equal elements of the whole performance.
These poets were organizing various poetry events and curated programs with other related professionals - musicians, choirs, vocalists, actors - on stage and across different media over ten years before Tobiya Poetic Jazz monthly event was formed.
The Monthly Tobiya Poetic Jazz event at Ras Hotel was founded eight years ago. This monthly event became very popular and started to attract more than 1200 attendants every month.
The protagonists and founders of Tobiya Poetic Jazz reach their national audience by performing in the cities, transmitting on TV programs, and radio broadcasts which are the most important media for mass communication in the multilingual, largest country on the Horn of Africa. The growing popularity of the events may explain why the national intelligence service regularly monitored the live shows. Tobiya poetic Jazz now has its own TV show on ARTS TV World with a promising reception. In 2012, Tobiya Poetic Jazz started a collaboration with the Institut für Raumexperimente/studio Olafur Eliasson in Berlin.
2008 initiierten die Künstlerin / Dichterin Mihret Kebede und ihre Musikerfreunde an der Yared-Musikschule das erste Poesie- und Jazz-Event des Landes. Das Ziel der Veranstaltung bestand darin, eine alternative, experimentelle künstlerische Veranstaltung zu organisieren, die sich von den häufig abgenutzten Musikformaten und Poesieveranstaltungen abhob und Poesie und Jazz als gleichwertige Elemente der Performance behandeln.
Über zehn Jahre vor der Gründung der monatlichen Veranstaltung Tobiya Poetic Jazz organisierten die Dichter verschiedene Poesieveranstaltungen und kuratierten Programme mit Protagonisten verwandter Bereiche - Musikern, Chören, Sängern, Schauspielern - auf Bühnen und in verschiedenen Medien.
Das monatliche Tobiya Poetic Jazz Event im Ras Hotel wurde vor acht Jahren gegründet. Diese monatliche Veranstaltung wurde schnell sehr beliebt und zog jeden Monat mehr als 1200 Besucher an.
Die Mitglieder von Tobiya Poetic Jazz erreichten ihr nationales Publikum mit zahlreichen Auftritten in vielen Städten, Fernsehprogrammen und Radiosendungen, die wichtigsten Medien der Massenkommunikation im mehrsprachigen und größten Land am Horn von Afrika. Die wachsende Beliebtheit der Veranstaltungen erklärt, warum der nationale Geheimdienst die Live-Shows regelmäßig überwachte. Tobiya Poetic Jazz hat jetzt eine eigene TV-Show auf ARTS TV World mit vielversprechender Resonanz. 2012 begann Tobiya Poetic Jazz eine Zusammenarbeit mit dem Institut für Raumexperimente / Studio Olafur Eliasson in Berlin.

Mihret Kebede is a multi-disciplinary artist and poet, co-founder of Tobiya poetic Jazz, Netsa Art village artists collective, and Addis video art festival, curator of the Festival-Focus Ethiopia. She graduated from Addis Ababa Fine Arts and Design University
in painting with distinction, earned her MA in arts there in 2016
